The ensemble Il piccolo concerto (Munich) was founded in 1990 by the Dekanatskantor Klaus Geitner. The ensemble appears with four to eight singers and basso continuo (cello / violone / organ) or in combination with a chamber Baroque orchestra.
The focus of the concert programmes are works by the Bach Family, as well as Heinrich Schütz, George Frideric Handel, Johann Pachelbel, Dietrich Buxtehude, Georg Philipp Telemann, Jan Dismas Zelenka, Gottfried August HomiliusAlessandro Scarlatti and M.A. Charpentier. In recent years, a greater emphais is put on the works of J.S. Bach: Mass in B minor (BWV 232), Six Motets (BWV 225-230), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), and by G.F. Handel: Dixit Dominus.
Each member of the ensemble has a professional singing training and is selected with a special emphasis on Baroque vocal sound. Thus, for example the alto parts are mostly sung by counter-tenor. For the artistic work sources of the 17th and 18th Centuries are used as the basis for a differentiated performance practice.
