Theo Altmeyer (Tenor)

Born: March 16, 1931 - Eschweiler (near Aachen), Germany
Died: July 28, 2007

The German tenor, Theodor (Theo) Daniel Altmeyer, studied singing in Köln with Clemens Glettenberg.

In 1956 Theo Altmeyer joined the Berlin Städtische Oper and remained on its roster until 1960. Then he became a member of the Hannover Opera and later appeared also at the Stuttgart Opera and The Vienna State Opera. He also toured North America. In 1974 he joined the faculty of Hochscule für Musik in Hannover, but continued to appear in opera and concerts.

Theo Altmeyer was renowned particularly for his interpretations of J.S. Bach's works. In 1995 he retired from public appearances. Since then he lived in Hannover.
