Gottfried Theodor Krause [Krauß, Krauss] was born to Christoph Theodor Krauß (Kantor in Herzberg on Elster). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on May 24, 1728; studied there from 1728 to 1736; and at Universität Leipzig in 1736. J.S. Bach reported (August 23, 1730): “usable for 1st Choir (figural music)”. He was one of J.S. Bach's copyists from 1730 to 1736, appearing in the manuscripts as Anon. Ve; Anon. 11. After his studies, he worked as teacher and subrector. He was Tertius at the Klosterschul Roßleben from 1746 until his death in 1753. |
