This part of the liturgy is attributed to Martin Luther (1528). It is still contained in the "Evangelisches Kirchengesangbuch", but rarely (if at all) used.
The antiphonal responses are all between the choir (Chor) and the congregation (Gemeinde).
There were some short-cuts in how this liturgy was performed, but it would be too complicated to describe all the variant methods implied (such as the congregation not singing after every line announced by the choir).
Bach used only short snippets of this as part of two recitatives as indicated below in BWV 18/3 and BWV 41/5. |
