The Swiss organist, harpsichordist and musicologist, Jean-Claude Zehnder, studied at the Konservatorium Winterthur, at the Universität Zürich, as well as and at the Musikakademie Wien with Anton Heiller and in Amsterdam with Gustav Leonhardt.
Since 1966, Jean-Claude Zehnder was organist and choir director at the Evangelischen Stadtkirche in Frauenfeld and taught organ and harpsichord at the Konservatorium Winterthur. From 1972 to 2006 he headed the organ class at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. He is organist on the instrument Instrument Johann Andreas Silbermanns (from 1761) at the Dom (Cathedral) in Arlesheim.
Jean-Claude Zehnder has published numerous recordings. (For example, J.S. Bach: Orgelbüchlein and the Achtzehn Choräle / Hildebrandt-organ in Naumburg / J.S. Bach on Schnitgers organ at at. Jacobi- in Hamburg / J.S. Bach on the Ahrend organ at San Simpliciano in Milan). He also participated in scientific publications produced especially for early work of J.S. Bach. In 2002 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Technischen Universität Dortmund In addition to his busy concert activity, he is active in Europe as a lecturer in organ courses ((Sommerakademie für Alte Musik in Innsbruck and Mitinitiator der Orgelwochen in Muri and Arlesheim)) and as a juror in organ competitions (in Arlesheim, Leipzig, Norden, Marchena-Sevilla, Bordeaux).
Among his many students are: Benjamin Alard, Jörg-Andreas Bötticher, Andrés Cea Galán, Attilio Cremonesi, Maurizio Croci.
