The Hungarian tenor, Dávid Szigetvári, studied at Weiner Leó Secondary School of Music - singing with Éva Lax, as well as composing and harpsichord. He ranked 3rd in the Simándy József Singing Competition in 2004. In the same year he was admitted to the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music as a student of Katalin Halmai, graduating with an “excellent” diploma in 2009. In 2006 he received the “Artisjus Award” for contemporary music performance. He attended master-classes with Mitsuko Shirai, Nicholas Clapton, Peter Schreier, Helmuth Rilling, Ton Koopman, Nancy Argenta and Jean-Paul Fouchécourt. In the First International Cesti Baroque Opera Singing Competition in Innsbruck he won the Special Prize in 2010.
In London Dávid Szigetvári performed Monteverdi's L’incoronazione di Poppea (Valetto and Student of Seneca) with the Budapest Chamber Opera. In L'Orfeo he sang the Shepherd in a staging by Gianfranco De Bosio. In 2007, he took part in the Schleswig-Holstein-Festival, Hamburg, with the Purcell Choir and the Orfeo Orchestra. In the following years he sang the Evangelist in the Passions by J.S. Bach in the Grand Hall of the Academy of Music Budapest. In 2010, he performed and recorded Mazzocchi's opera La catena d'Adone with the Belgian early music ensemble Scherzi Musicali. As part of the programme of the European Capital of Culture 2010 he performed Haydn's Missa Cellensis in Pécs Cathedral. With the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hungarian National Choir he sang Felix Mendelssohn's Lobgesang.
In 2011, Dávid Szigetvári recorded Antonio Caldara's Oratorio di Santo Stefano, Primo Re dell'Ungheria with the Savaria Baroque Orchestra (Capella Savaria) conducted by Pál Németh. After a successful concert in the Konzerthaus Wien, he sang in Purcell's Dido & Aeneas in Rotterdam. At the Musikfestspiele Sanssouci, Potsdam, he sang Alceste in Calandro by Ristori. He made his debut at the Landestheater Passau in February 2012 as Telemaco in Monteverdi's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, conducted by Wolfgang Katschner and directed by Kobie Van Rensburg. |
