The Czech tenor, Čeněk Svoboda, studied violin at the Music School (ZUŠ) in Liberec (1992-1996) and privately solo singing with Professor Svatavy Šubrtové. In Prague he graduated from the Pedagogical Faculty of Charles University, majoring in Music and choir conducting in the class of Marka Valáška.
Since 2001 Čeněk Svoboda directs the choir Cum decore at the Gymnasium F. X. Šalda in Liberec. From 2006 to 2013, he was choirmaster of the mixed choir Ještěd in Liberec (Ještěd - liberecký pěvecký sbor). In Prague he directs since 2004 ensemble specializing in early music Collegium 419. Currently he directs the vocal ensemble I Dilettanti, specializing in madrigals and Renaissance vocal polyphony. As choirmaster he has won awards at national and international choir and and choirmaster competitions. In 2005, he was awarded the Czech Choral Union Choirmaster-Junior (Unie českých pěveckých sborů Sbormistr-junior).
In addition to the choir he directs, Čeněk Svoboda is also active as a solo and ensemble singer. He is one of the founding members of the ensemble Collegium Vocale 1704 (Director: Václav Luks; since 2005). He also collaborates with Musica Florea (Director: Marek Štryncl), Doulce memoire, Musica Aeterna Bratislava, Dresdner Kammerchor (Director: Hans-Christoph Rademann; since 2012) and others.
Since 2013, Čeněk Svoboda studies and teaches graduate students at Charles University (Pedagogická fakulta UK v Praze). He teaches there music history and works on his dissertation on authentic interpretation of early vocal music. He also prepares programs for Czech Radio 3 - Vltava, writes reviews on CD recordings and reports for the magazine Harmonie. He is newly married with Anna Svobodová and currently lives in Liberec. |
