The Czech violoncellist and conductor, Marek Štryncl, studied cello and conducting at the Teplice Music Conservatory. It was here that he began to take an interest in Baroque music and its period interpretation, which led him to establish Musica Florea in 1992. Recently he has been studying at the Dresdner Akademie für Alte Musik (Baroque violoncello) and at the Prague Academy of Musical Arts (conducting). He has taken part in courses and master-classes on Baroque cello performance in Chinon, France, in Mainz under Renhard Göbel, and in Blankenburg, Germany, and Valtice in Moravia.
Apart from Musica Florea, Marek Štryncl has also played with several Czech and foreign ensembles (Musica Antiqua Praha, Capella Regia Musicalis, Musica Aeterna, Musicalische Compagney), and during the 1994-1995 season he was principal cello for the North Bohemian Philharmonic in Teplice. In 1994 he conducted a recording of Jan Dismas Zelenka’s Missa Sanctissimae Trinitatis for Studio Matouš and conducted this work at Prague’s Spring Music Festival a year later. Also in 1995, he conducted another celebrated work by J.D. Zelenka, Sub Olea Pacis et Palma Virtutis, at the St. Wenceslas Festival in Prague. |
