The German soprano, Mona Spägele, studied at the Munich Academy of Music from 1983 to 1987. During these years her interest in early music and historical vocal practice led her to Andrea von Ramm, from whom she received important stimuli for her future development. For some years she has studied singing privately with France Simard in Stuttgart. At present she regularly works together with Lucy Coleby in Münster.
Mona Spägele's vocal art is characterized by an extraordinary versatility. She deliberately seeks out works off the beaten path of the repertoire, and her delight in the discovery of unknown music has taken her on many new musical journeys. As a member of several renowned vocal ensembles, she specializes in ensemble music of the 16th to 18th centuries. Moreover, she is also in great demand as a soloist, with her special focus here being formed by the great oratorio repertoire as well as by early Baroque Italian and German Music.
Mona Spägele's extensive concertizing has taken her to the international early music festivals in Utrect, Bruges, Berlin, Stuttgart, Innsbruck, and Antwerp. She worked together with renowned musicians such as Frieder Bernius, Konrad Junghänel, Lajos Rovátkay, Thomas Hengelbrock, Hermann Max, and Howard Arman and performes on numerous recordings and radio productions. Recently, various stage productions have complemented her versatile musical career.
