Liechtenstein musicians and music lovers founded the Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein [or Symphonisches Orchester Liechtenstein) (= SOL) in 1988. In the now 20-year period of its existence, the SOL through commitment, enthusiasm and a high quality has developed into a sound body, which gives the audience an enjoyable and impressive concert experiences and can inspire the country of Liechtenstein and abroad as a representing musical ambassador. It has long been an important and recognized part of the musical and cultural life of Liechtenstein, but also the wider region.
The orchestra members are professional musicians and music teachers from Liechtenstein, the neighboring regions of Switzerland and Austria as well as from southern Germany. Depending on the program, from 45 to 80 musicians are involved in the concerts. The "Camerata des SOL" is a chamber music ensemble of the Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein.
The repertoire of the orchestra includes works from across the classical and romantic orchestral literature, but also contemporary compositions. The works of great composer of Liechtensteiner, Josef Gabriel Rheinberger, are frequently included on the programme, some of his major works, the SOL has recorded on CD. Works by contemporary composers are also nurtured and taken into account; compositions of H. Schweizer, Chr. Kobelt, H. Schädler, J. Hanselmann, M. Frommelt and D. Gong were premiered by the SOL.
The concert activity of the SOL is not limited to Liechtenstein and the neighboring regions in Austria and Switzerland, but also led to Germany, France and Macedonia, where the SOL guested in the summer of 2004 at the International Music Festival in Ohrid. On the occasion of the anniversary of 200 years of sovereignty of the State of Liechtenstein, the Camerata of the SOL performed two concerts in Vienna in October 2006. The SOL has maintained close collaboration with the Theater am Kirchplatz (TaK) in Schaan, and is now a regular guest in the concert calendar of the TaK.
Since its founding, the orchestra has performed, together with the Chorseminar Liechtenstein, oratorios and other large choral-orchestral concerts. But the involvement in other prestigious productions such as the Operettenbühne Balzers, the Schlossfestspielen Werdenberg (1999) and the Josef Gabriel Rheinberger Chor reaffirm the important position of the SOL as a professional sound body. Several times already the SOL performed Opera Cocktail on New Year's Day at the Kongresszentrum in Davos. In addition, the SOL, whose main sponsor of the Centrum Bank AG in Vaduz, repeatedly performs for a variety of projects at home and abroad. |
