Ingeborg Ruß (Contralto)

Born: Germany

The German contralto, Ingeborg Ruß, was without doubt one of the leading altos in oratorio and concert performance. She trained as an opera singer in Nuremberg under Chamber Singer Willy Domgraf-Fassbaender.

Following a brief period of opera performance in Hof and Nuremberg, Ingeborg Ruß went on to specialise almost exclusively in concert performance. Her hugely creative approach, not to mention the beauty and perfection of her melodious voice soon made her one of the most popular female singers in Europe. Engagements at music festivals, recording sessions, and television and radio broadcasts cemented her international reputation.

In 1981 Ingeborg Ruß was awarded the Bavarian Prize for Culture for her superb artistic achievements. For many years, she taught singing at the Conservatory for Soloists in Nuremberg and at the Music Academy in Würzburg. From 1982 onwards, she held a professorship at the Detmold Academy of Music. Among her pupils and/or singers who have attended her master-classes: Renate Kaschmieder (Mezzo-soprano).
