The German cellist and conductor, Olaf Reimers, studied modern cello in (Christoph Henkel), London (Michael Evans, Anthony Pleeth and Charles Medlam), Düsseldorf (Johannes Goritzki), and 2 semesters of musicology in Köln. He went on to The Hague in 1989 to study Baroque cello with Jaap ter Linden. He won DAAD Scholarship for three years of studies in London and The Hague. He received additional influential suggestions in master-classes with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Siegfried Palm and Anner Bylsma.
Since 1993 he has played music from the 16th to the 20th centuries with ensembles in (especially) Germany and the UK. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has worked with artists such as Emma Kirkby, Derek Lee Ragin, Gloria Banditelli, Andrew Manze, Rachel Podger, Sirkka-Liisa Kaakinen-Pilch, Anton Steck, Kati Debretzeni, Alfredo Bernardini, Dorothee Oberlinger, Rachel Brown, Sergio Azzolini, Fabio Bonizzoni and James Johnstone. He has performed as a solo cellist or the only cellist of the ensembles La Stravaganza Köln, Ciaccona London, La Risonanza Milano, Ornamente 99 (Director: Karsten Erik Ose), Collegium Cartusianum (Director: Peter Neumann), Ensemble 1700 (Director: Dorothee Oberlinger) and Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (Director: Ton Koopman), and The Bach Players (England).
Since 1998, Olaf Reimers is Music Director of the Baroque ensemble Caterva Musica in Gelsenkirchen. Since 2006, he is solo cellist of Musica Fiata in Köln (Director: Roland Wilson); since 2007, solo cellist of Capella Thuringia (Bernhard Klapprott); since 2007 he is a member of the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique (Direc tor: John Eliot Gardiner); Since 2008, solo cellist of the English Baroque Soloists (Director: John Eliot Gardiner )
Since 2007, Olaf Reimers teached Baroque cello at the Institute of Early Music at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar. |
