The Italian harpsichordist and organist, Fabio Bonizzoni, graduated in Italy in organ, organ composition and harpsichord cum laude. From 1987 to 1994 he studied under Ton Koopman, being his only student, at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague where he graduated in both Baroque organ and solo harpsichord.
After having played for several years (mostly as a continuo player) with some of the most important orchestras specializing in early music, such as the vocal group La Venexiana and the instrumental ensembles Le Concert des Nations of Jordi Savall, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra of Ton Koopman and Europa Galante of Fabio Biondi, Fabio Bonizzoni is now devoting himself to his activities as soloist and director of his own ensemble La Risonanza.
Fabio Bonizzoni is harpsichord professor at the Conservatory of Trapani (Italy), at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana of Lugano (Switzerland) and, from the season 2006-2007, at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Holland). He is president of the “Associazione Hendel”, a society devoted to the studies of George Frideric Handel’s music in Italy.
Fabio Bonizzoni has appeared in numerous programmes broadcast by the BBC, WDR, Radio France, SWF, ORF and HR. After several solo recordings for labels Arcana (Claudio Merulo), Symphonia, and Stradivarius (Baldassarre Galuppi and Andrea Gabrieli), he is presently working for the Spanish label Glossa, both as a soloist and with his group, La Risonanza. For Glossa he recorded works of Giovanni Salvatore, of Giovanni Picchi - awarded the Deutsche Schallplatten Preis, Francesco Geminiani - FFFF of Télérama, Bernardo Storace - CD of the month for Amadeus, Domenico Scarlatti - Eccezionale by Scherzo. His last release is devoted to the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) of J.S. Bach. With La Risonanza he is in the process of recording the complete Italian cantatas with instruments of G.F. Handel.
