The German lyric soprano, Simone Nold, received her musical education at the Hochschule für Musik, where she studied with Reri Grist. Additionally, she was member of the Lieder class of Helmut Deutsch. In 1993, she attended a Lieder class of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau in Berlin. Due to a scholarship of the DAAD she studied at Indiana University Bloomington in 1993 and 1994. She was able to gain her first stage experience as Pamina in the renowned operatic program of the university. She completed her degree in Bloomington in 1995 and returned to Munich, where she completed her studies in 1996.
Simone Nold has been an ensemble member of the Deutsche Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin since 1996-97, where she debuted as Gretel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel and has appeared as Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Elisetta in Cimarosa’s Il Matrimonio Segreto. She also made her debuts at the Innsbrucker Festwochen fur Alte Musik as Smorflosa in Gassman'sL'Opera Seria conducted by René Jacobs. In the seasons that followed she sang among others Pamina, Ännchen in Der Freischütz, Carolina in Il matrimonio segreto, Clerida in Der Hochmütige, "Gestürzte und Wieder Erhabene Croesus" and Madeleine in Le Postillon de Lonjumeau. In September 2000 she sang her first Konstanze in Die Entführung Aus Dem Serail at the Staatsoper in Berlin.
In the 1999 world premiere of Elliot Carter’s first opera What Next?, Simone Nold was highly acclaimed by audience and international press in the leading role of Rose. In February and March 2000, she performed this role in a concert version of the opera in Chicago (Symphony Hall) and New York (Carnegie Hall), conducted by Daniel Barenboim. In November 2000 she sang this role under Kent Nagano in Paris (concert version).
This versatile artist also sings Lieder, chamber music and the great oratorios and masses for instance W.A. Mozart, Haydn, George Frideric Handel, and J.S. Bach whose St. Matthew’s Passion (BWV 244) she interpreted at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under Peter Schreier. She appeared in concerts with Enoch zu Guttenberg, Sir Charles Farncombe and Helmuth Rilling. With the latter and his International Bachakademie, she celebrated a triumph when she stood in at short notice for the role of Jemina in Schubert’s Lazarus in January 1996.
In February 1998 Simone Nold toured through Amsterdam, Paris and Brussels with Philippe Herreweghe and the Chapelle Royale thereby performing Robert Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust. In March 2000 she recorded Sechs Orchesterlieder op. 8 by Arnold Schoenberg with Linos Ensemble in the chamber version for the WDR and Capriccio.
Simone Nolds appears at several festivals such as the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker, the Würzburger Mozartfest, the Festival Mitte Europa and the Schubertiade Feldkirch to which she was invited for recitals a number of times. |
