The American musicologist and music pedagogue, Daniel R. Melamed, obtained his A.B. degree from Harvard University (1982); his A.M. degree from Harvard University (1985); his Master of Arts from Stanford University (1983); and his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Harvard University (1989);
Daniel R. Melamed serves as Professor of Music (Musicology); and Chair of Department of Musicology at Indiana University: Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington. Research interests in J.S. Bach and older members of the Bach Family, performance practice, W.A. Mozart's operas and problems of authenticity and attribution. Author of Hearing Bach's Passions, J.S. Bach and the German Motet, co-author (with Michael Marissen) of An Introduction to Bach Studies, editor of Bach Studies 2 (Cambridge) and Bach Perspectives 8. Articles and reviews in JAMS, Bach-Jahrbuch, Beiträge zur Bachforschung, Journal of Musicology, Music & Letters, Early Music, Bach Notes, Cambridge Opera Journal, and Mozart-Jahrbuch; musical editions published by Hänssler-Verlag, Carus-Verlag, Harvard University, and A-R Editions. He has served as editor of the Journal of Musicology and as vice president of the American Bach Society, and is now that society's General Editor. He married Suzanne Ryan Melamed on August 9, 2014 and currently lives in Bloomington, Indiana. |
