The Austrian composer, choral conductor, organist, bass singer and music teacher, Joachim Simon Mayer, studied Theology and History at the Universität Innsbruck, completed 2001 with the doctorate. He also studied church music at the Tiroler Landes-Konservatorium Innsbruck (organ with Peter Waldner and Reinhard Jaud, choir and orchestra conducting with Günther Simonott). Afterwards the church music studies, he studied at the Mozarteum Salzburg with Albert Anglberger (choral conducting), Elisabeth Ullmann (organ), Hannfried Lucke (organ improvisation), Kurt Estermann (composition), Xaver Kainzbauer (Gregorian chorale) and Wolfgang Fuchsberger (singing), graduating with the Magister Artium. He completed his training by attending choral conducting seminars with Josef Döller (Graz), Wolfram Menschik (Eichstätt) and Roland Büchner (Regensburg), member of the Chorakademie Erl (Director: Gustav Kuhn).
In addition to teaching at the BORG / Musikgymnasium Innsbruck, the director of the Kirchenchores Zirl (since 2010) and the Capella Vocalis Innsbruck, Joachim Mayer also performs as a church musician at the Spitalkirche and in smaller ensembles, as well as a bass soloist (including W.A. Mozart's Requiem) and a Lieder singer (L.v. Beethoven, Robert Schumann, Schubert, CD with Lieder by Victoria Draganescu Zimtea).
Joachim Mayer composes and arranges music pieces for different occupations, here a small selection of the compositions: Erste Tiroler Bergmesse for mixed choir, wind instruments & small drum; Erste Tiroler Bergmesse for men's choir, wind instruments & small drum; Regina Coeli laetare for soprano solo, choir and orchestra (2 trumpets, timpani, strings & organ); Ave Regina Coelorum for soprano solo, choir and orchestra (2 trumpets, timpani, strings & organ); Alle meine Quellen entspringen in dir (text & song by Sr. Leonore Heinzl) for mixed choir; Arrangement of the Lied O Sanctissima / Oh du fröhliche for soloists, choir & orchestra; Maria durch ein Dornwald ging for mixed choir.
From the findings of his historical research activity so far, four works have been published, which have appeared in book form, on Geschichte von Göfis, Rankweil und Schlins. Joachim Mayer currently lives in Innsbruck, Austria. |
