Ramiro Maturana (Baritone)

Born: February 4, ____ - Chile

The Chilean baritone, Ramiro Maturane, has Degree in Musical Interpretation and Teaching, mention in Singing and Choral Conducting from the Universidad de Talca, Chile (2008-2012). He began his singing studies in 2008 at the Universidad de Talca under the chair of the soprano Carolina Robleros, continuing with the bass-baritone Rodrigo Navarret. He also studied with Luciana D’Intino, Renato Bruson and Eva Mei.

In 2012 Ramiro Maturana debuted as Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Regional del Maule. Since 2012, he has been Opera Singer at Teatro Municipal de Santiago. In 2013 he received the National Scholarship, Mention Canto lírico from the Corporación de Amigos del Teatro Municipal de Santiago - Ópera Nacional de Chile. He participated as a soloist in the international cast of Il Barbiere di Siviglia as Fiorello, in the stellar cast of Charles Gounod's Romeo et Juliette as Paris and in the production of "Pequeño Municipal" from the opera L’Elisir d’amore as Belcore, all productions of the Teatro Municipal de Santiago. He has also performed as a soloist in La Traviata, Lakmé and Rusalka. He sung the title role in W.A. Mozart's, Dancairo in Georges Bizet's Carmen, Falke in Die Fledermaus and Barón Douphol in La Traviata; as well as Conte D’Almaviva in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro and Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in the Manhattan Opera Studio, New York. Since July 2013, he has been a member of the Camerata Vocal de la Universidad de Chile (Director: Juan Pablo Villarroel) and Vocal instructor of Coro Sinfónico de la Universidad de Chile. Since 2013, he also perfformed as a soloist with Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Chile.

Ramiro Maturana has been conducted by Franz Welser-Möst, Yves Abel, Ádám Fischer, Paolo Carignani, Pietro Mianiti, Konstantin Chudovsky, Maxime Pascal, Leonid Grin, Francisco Rettig, and worked with well known directors such as Jürgen Flimm, Liliana Cavani, Woody Allen, Fabio Sparvoli, Grischa Asagaroff, Frederic Wake-Walker, Jean-Louis Pichon, among others. He has performed in numerous concerts and recitals as soloist, such as Teatro alla Scala, Carnegie Hall, National Opera Center- NY, Opera Nacional de Chile, and, Teatro del Lago-Chile.

In January 2014, Ramiro Maturana participated in the premiere in our country of Luciano Berio's Symphony for eight voices and orchestra together with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile. In April he debuts as a soloist in the Official Season of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile in J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 performing Pilatus together with the Camerata Vocal & Coro Sinfónico de la Universidad de Chile, he also participated as a soloist in cantatas BWV 61 and BWV 104 by J.S. Bach and the cantata "O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden" by Felix Mendelssohn together with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile. In July 2014 he played Fréderic in the stellar cast of the opera Lakmé at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago. In August 2014 he participated in G. Bizet's opera Carmen as Dancairo at the Teatro de la Universidad de Concepción. He also played Falke in La fiesta del murciélago, adaptation of the operetta Die Fledermaus at the Teatro Regional del Maule. In 2015 he played Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, production of the Teatro Regional de Rancagua, he also played the role of the Hunter in the opera Rusalka in the Teatro Municipal de Santiago.

From October 2017 to 2020, Ramiro Maturana was a member of Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Italy, debuting that same year in Teatro alla Scala on the world premier opera Ti vedo, ti sento, mi perdo by Salvatore Sciarrino performing the role of Giovane Cantore, conducted by Maxime Pascal and the direction of Jürgen Flimm, as also Il barbiere de Siviglia and L’Elisir d’amore on the role of Belcore, conducted by Pietro Mianiti and Grischa Asagaroff direction, Ali Baba e i quaranta ladroni by Cherubini singing Phaor conducted by Maestro Paolo Carignani and directed by Liliana Cavani, and the new production of Teatro alla Scala of Ariadne auf Naxos conducted by Franz Welser-Möst and directed by Frederic Wake-Walker. He has also performed L’Elisir d’amore at Grand Theatre de Geneve.

Ramiro Maturana has also performed as a soloists at Athénée Théâtre Louis-Jouvet (August 2020); Ópera de Tenerife (February 2021-March 2021: Il Matrimonio Segreto); Teatro Grande di Brescia (September 2021); Teatro Sociale di Como (January 2022); Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik (July 2020); Rossini Opera Festival (July 2021; with Accademia Rossiniana Alberto Zedda); Teatro Real (November 2021: Cendrillon); Teatro Regio in Parma (February 2023).

His upcoming performances comprehend Rigoletto, Gianni Schicchi, Ariadne auf Naxos and Prima la musica e poi le parole in Teatro alla Scala, George Frideric Handel's Apollo e Daphne with Orquesta de Cámara de Chile and W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni with the title role in Teatro Regional del Maule, Chile.
