Born: Chile

The Chilean conductor, Francisco Rettig, was a disciple of the maestros Hans Swarovski, Sergiu Celibidache and Franco Ferrara. He trained at the Musikhochschule Köln, Germany, where he graduated with maximum distinction.

Francisco Rettig is recognized internationally for his interpretations of the post-romantic German repertoire, especially his versions of the works of Gustav Mahler and Bruckner, and for managing a great balance between technique and musicality. He has directed more than six orchestras in the cinco continents, both in the symphonic repertoire and in the opera. He was Director of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Chile and Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile, for twelve years, Chief Conductor of the Filarmónica de Bogotá, ringing this group to an outstanding musical level. He directed during the last decade in important theaters in Germany, Mexico, Chile, Italy, Australia and Argentina. He is currently Prinicipal Conductor of the Romanian Radio National Orchestra, based in Bucharest, receiving praise for his recordings and concerts with this institution.

In parallel, Francisco Rettig is the Musical Director of TRM, an emblematic Chilean project that, three years after its inception, has already been highlighted for its symphonic and lyrical achievements, as well as for its great social impact. He is Principal Conductor of the Orquesta Clásica del Maule. Since 2009 he has been linked as Associate Director to the Orquesta Filarmónica de Medellín.

Francisco Rettig received the Order of Merit in the rank of Gran Comendador, granted by the Council and the Mayor's Office of Bogotá. For the second consecutive year, he received the 2009 Victor Tevah Award, a distinction given to the best Director of the Concert Seasons of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile, as well as the Art Critics Circle Award, for his Gustav Mahler interpretations.
