Coro Maghini (Maghini Choir) is a professional choral ensemble based in Turin, Italy that has worked closely with Italian Radio Television (Rai) Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI since 1995. This prestigious collaboration has seen many important performances, among which Mass in B minor (BWV 232), St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244), St. John Passion (BWV 245) and Magnificat (BWV 243) (J.S. Bach); Messiah, Israel in Egypt (George Frideric Handel); Requiem and Mass in C minor (W.A. Mozart); Die Schöpfung and Die Jahreszeiten (Haydn); Missa solemnis and Symphony No. 9 (L.v. Beethoven); Te Deum and Messa da Requiem (Verdi), all the Johannes Brahms symphonic-choral works, Peer Gynt (Grieg), War Requiem (Benjamin Britten), La vida breve (De Falla), Porgy and Bess (Gershwin), Der Rosenkavalier (Strauss), all performed under such prestigious directors as Rafael Frühbeck De Burgos, Yuri Ahronovitch, Kirill Petrenko, Gerd Albrecht, Kristian Jarvi, Serge Baudo, Simon Preston, Jeffrey Tate, Juanio Mena, Gianandrea Noseda, Ottavio Dantone, Wayne Marshall, Helmuth Rilling, Christopher Hogwood, Robert King and Ivor Bolton.
In January 2006, the choir performed Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI in the inauguration concert to celebrate the restoration of the orchestra’s Arturo Toscanini Auditorium in Turin. 2007 and 2008 saw performances in the annual Christmas Concert in the Saint Francis Basilica of Assisi, a RAI production that was broadcast on Eurovision. In March 2008, the Maghini Choir participated in the 47th Semana de Música Religiosa in Cuenca (Spain), performing B. Britten's War Requiem and Verdi’s Messa da Requiem. In 2011 the Choir participated in the MA Festival Brugge (Belgium), in 2012 and 2013 in the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music (Austria).
Since 2007 the chorus has worked regularly with Academia Montis Regalis and its director Alessandro de Marchi, with whom numerous Baroque concert projects have been realized, such as: L’Orfeo (Monteverdi); Jephte (Carissimi); Psalms (G.F. Handel); Gloria and Magnificat (Antonio Vivaldi); Coronation Mass and Vesperae solemnes de confessore (W.A. Mozart); Te Deum (Fiorè); Magnificat (BWV 243), Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) and St. John Passion (BWV 245) (J.S. Bach); Davidis pugna et victoria (Alessandro Scarlatti); I Vespri dei Carmelitani (G.F. Handel); Georg Philipp Telemann’s opera Flavius Bertaridus; La Clemenza di Tito (W.A. Mozart). Coro Maghini has been directed by Claudio Chiavazza since its foundation. |
