History & Mission: |
The Choir “Coro Maghini” is one of the most important professional choirs in Italy. Founded in 1995, it has since performed internationally with great acclaim. In the last few years, it has organized an international festival focusing on J.S. Bach’s music. Performances by some of the leading conductors, orchestras and ensembles in the field of “authentic” performance practice are juxtaposed to creative reinterpretations of J.S. Bach’s music, in an interdisciplinary dialogue with other artistic forms and performing styles. From performances of J.S. Bach's Cantatas or the Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) on period instruments to the Art of Fugue (BWV 1080) for four violas accompanied by acrobatic performances of circus artists; from a focus on J.S. Bach transcriptions (e.g. those realised by J.S. Bach himself, from Giovanni Battista Pergolesi to Francesco Durante, and those made on J.S. Bach’s music, e.g. by Ferruccio Busoni) to the creation of origami taking place during a performance of the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988): our mission is to engage wider audiences in the appreciation, knowledge of and love for J.S. Bach’s music, whose artistic and spiritual essence is never betrayed, but whose challenges are creatively accepted in dialogue with today’s world. |
