The Belgisn tenor, Vincent Lesage, seemed intitially to have a nice career as a Baroque violinist and concertmaster. His course, however, took a different turn. He obtained his Master of Music degree Musicology at the Katholieke Universiteit of Leuven (2000) and Master of Music degree in Baroque violin with Sigiswald Kuijken at the Koninklijk Conservatorium of Brussels (KCB) (2005).
After his studies, Vincent Lesage became associated with various ensembles of early music. His collaboration as a violinist in Baroque oratorios and operas, discovered a new world for him. Under the spell of this immensely rich vocal repertoire, he also discovered he has the necessary resources to become a classical singer himself. He studied with the soprano Lena Lootens (soprano) at the KCB. He also received private lessons and master-classes with Udo Reinemann, Axel Everaert, Stephen Salters, Helmut Deutsch, Roger Vignoles, Edith Wiens, Alexander Oliver, Howard Crook and Greta de Reyghere.
During his training Vincent Lesage worked first as a chorister but soon also as a soloist in various productions: Choeur de Chambre de Namur (Director: Jean Tubéry), La Petite Bande (Director: Sigiswald Kuijken), Anima Eterna and the Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe). He is invited by l'Arpeggiata, Il Gardellino (Director: Marcel Ponseele), Akâdemia (Director: Françoise Lasserre). He has quickly found his way in the oratorio repertoire. He has sung the Evangelist and/or tenor arias in the Passions of J.S. Bach and the Lukas-Pasion by Georg Philipp Telemann, performed the tenor solo in W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Stabat Mater by Haydn and their Masses and Vespers. In November 2009 he won the Nederlandse Vocalistenpresentatie in Oosterbeek. Since then he is asked often by Dutch oratorio societies, as among other things the Messa di Gloria by Puccini in IJmuiden in October 2010. During the 2009-2010 season he sang the role of Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and the role of the Schoolmaster in The Cunning Little Vixen at Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège. In December 2010, he co-operated with with the Liège Philharmonic Orchestra in the semi-concertante production of L'Enfant et les Sortilèges by Ravel, under the direction of Pascal Rophé. In June-July 2011, he participated, along with eight other soloists from the Collegium Vocale Gent in the creation of Bloed & Rozen, a theater production of the Toneelhuis: directed by Guy Cassiers, text by Tom Lanoye, music by Dominique Pauwels. Performances took place at the Bourla in Antwerp and at the prestigious Cour d'honneur du Palais des Papes in Avignon Festival. In November 2010 he made his debut with Nationale Reisopera, Netherlands in the dual role Thespis/Mercure in Platée by Rameau. In February 2012 he was heard as Polidarte and Voce di Vitaliano Seniore in Antonio Vivaldi's Giustino at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and the Theater an der Wien. With Anima Eterna conducted by Jos van Immerseel, he sang in Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda at the Budapest Orchestra Festival (2013).
Parallel to these activities Vincent Lesage unfolds a career as a conductor. In 2010-2011 he took conducting lessons with Patrick Davin to the KCB. He directs the Brussels Bachkoor and performed with them on September 11, 2011 W.A. Mozart's Requiem at the Grote Zaal of the Brussels Conservatorium with an excellent orchestra on period instruments. |
