The American bas-baritone, Daniel Thomas Lentz, studied at Wooster High School in Wooster, Ohio (Diploma, 2003). He obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio (2007); and his Master of Music degree in Voice from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington (2009). He is studying towards his Doctor of Music in Voice also at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music(expected graduation date of 2016). He studies with mezzo-soprano Patricia Stiles.His awards/honors include: Nominee, Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship, College of Wooster (2003); Honors, Senior Recital, College of Wooster (2007); Recipient, Pi Kappa Lambda Prize in Music Performance, College of Wooster (2007); Recipient, Music Merit Scholarship, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (2009); Recipient, Artistic Excellence Scholarship, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (2012-Present)
Daniel Thomas Lentz has enjoyed a widely varied career. He specializes in the repertoire of J.S. Bach. No stranger to world premieres. He recently sang the role of Nick in New Voices Opera’s world premiere of Cosmic Ray & the Amazing Chris; as well as Sung-Ong in the world premiere of The Tale of Lady Thi Kinh. Roles at Indiana University include: Elviro in George Frideric Handel's Xerxes, Haly in L’Italiana in Algeri, Antonio in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, and Curio in G.F. Handel's Giulio Cesare. He made his debut as the title role in Gianni Schicchi at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, where he taught Voice at the College of Charleston. At the Bay View Music Festival he was featured as Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and the Count in Le nozze di Figaro. With the Wooster Chorus, he sang solos in Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Ralph Vaughan Williams' Fantasy on Christmas Carols, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, and Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass. He also sang the Bass solos in J.S. Bach's Mass in B Minor (BWV 232) with the Bloomington Chamber Singers and Indianapolis. Upcoming performances include Jesus in J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir.
Daniel Thomas Lentz also sings in a Barbershop Quartet Jordan River Crossing, the top eighth quarter in the Cardinal District. Lentz also composes and performs his own music. Currently, He hopes to teach at the collegiate level upon completion of his Doctor of Music degree. |
