The Polish soprano, Jolanta Kowalska-Pawlikowska, was awarded three scholarships for artistic activity and educational achievements by the Ministry of Culture. She is also a scholar of the programme “Młoda Polska” and the City of Cracow for study in London. She studied under Professor Agnieszka Monasterska at the Academy of Music in Cracow where she graduated with distinction. She has finished her studies with Ameral Gunson at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She has participated in master-classes given by Helena Łazarska, Teresa Żylis-Gara, Barbara Schlick, Peter Kooy, Paul Esswood, Liob Braun, Elisabeth von Magnus, Ryszard Karczykowski.
Jolanta Kowalska has received numerous prizes, commendations and distinctions from many International Competitions including the International Vocal Competition ”Iuventus Canti” in Vrable, Slovakia, Mozart Singing Competition in London and the Vocal Competition of The Polish Artistic Song. She also won the prize at the International Ada Sari Competition. In 2008 she won the award of the “Christa Bach Foundation” in the XVI International Johann-Sebastian-Bach Competition in Leipzig and was the winner of the London Bach Society Singers’ prize in London and The Thelma King Competition. She won also the Jurica Murai Prize for the best interpretation at the Baroque Festival in Varazdin, Croatia.
In Cracow, Jolanta Kowalska has sung regularly with the Baroque group Capella Cracoviensis performing many solo works for them. In Egland She has performed many concerts with the ensemble “The Musicke Companye” and with Paul Esswood. She performed in many countries like Kazachstan, Russia, France, England, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Finland, Croatia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Belarus, Lithuania.
Amongst many other solo engagements Jolanta Kowalska sang George Frideric Handel’s Messiah under Helmuth Rilling, J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245) and B minor Mass (BWV 232) with Andrew Parrott, W.A. Mozart’s Requiem with Vincent Dumestre, and with Andreas Spering, Deborah with Ralf Sochaczevsky, and she participated as a soloist in tour of the Kantorei Sankt Barbara Choir and the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra in Israel. In 2011 she sung at the Festival Opera Rara where she performed in Alcina by G.F. Handel conducted by Marc Minkowski with Orchestra Les Musiciens du Louvre Grenoble. After this concert she was invited to take part in another project in France, Spain and Germany. The touree was in 2012 with J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) and one of the concerts was at the Festival Misteria Paschalia. In 2013 she sung also under Marc Minkowski in C minor Mass by W.A. Mozart at the concert in France.
One of her review for her G.F. Handel stated “She sang with amazing purity and clarity and the innocence of her singing was totally enthralling”. |
