The Chorgemeinschaft (Community Choir), an integral parts of the Kantorei an der Friedens-Kirche Hamborn, was founded in 1917 as the Kirchenchor (church choir). It is interdenominational and the overwhelming majority of members residing outside the municipality Hamborn. During the long years of their existence, they have outgrown a clean community choir and thanks to the tireless work of its head to an estimated sound body. Due to the age-related retirement of a number of members in the last 2 years, it has reduced to a "core team" of about 45 singers.
The repertoire of the choir includes J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and the reconstructed Markus-Passion (BWV 247). In addition, the oratorios of Bach, Haydn, Rudolf Mauersberger and Felix Mendelssohn, as well as measurement of Dvorák, Mozart, Schubert, and Ein Deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms. The choir also performs less known works, such as Rudolf Mauersberger's Dresdner Requiem, which has been presented several times in Hamborn, Dinslaken and Düsseldorf. In addition to the large choral concerts (2 times annually), the choir does church music with specially designed worship.
Several appearances also led the choir at concerts abroad, partly mixed with sightseeing and leisure. In the early years the Chorgemeinschaft visited Sweden and Switzerland, followed by two further visits to Italy, where the choir gave in Rome a spontaneous concert at the Church of St. Paul outside the walls. They were invited to appear at the International Music festival of Abu Gosh in Israel. Other concerts were held in Tabgha - the place of the miracle of the loaves - and in Jerusalem. |
Since late 2005, the musical activities of the Kantorei have expanded to include the Evangelischen Bläserkreis Duisburg-Nord, under the direction of Karl Berger. The Bläserkreis has 12 brass and wind instruments from all over the city of Duisburg and the surrounding area, mainly from the north of Duisburg. They meet weekly for rehearsals at the Friedenskirche.
The Bläserkreis is involved in community events and concerts. They perform, for example, at open-air sacred services and events of the Church, such as the Church Music Festival in 2006 and the 2007 District Church Day. In addition, they play in diaconal area at least once a year in the Advent season to the nave in the port of Duisburg and in Christopher-Altenheim.
A small group of four people from the Bläserkreis, has been recently selected under the name "4Brass" to perform woodwind literature music. |
