The Knabenchor Hösel is a choir comprising students from grade 4 to 13. Up until the school year 2006-2007, the choir was called Jugendkantorei Hösel (= JKH). It was a mixed children’s and youth choir comprising a high percentage of boys’ voices. Since 2007, the choir is only for boys and is now called Knabenchor Hösel.
Its foremost task is to perform during church services at the Adolf-Clarenbach-Kirche, Ratingen-Hösel and in Ratingen’s main church St. Peter and Paul. The choir sings music from all periods. The choir’s repertoire includes music of all ages. Main artistic emphasis is placed on regular performance of works of J.S. Bach and W.A. Mozart throughout the church year and on compositions for choir and organ, in particular of the French Romantic period.
Radio and TV appearances, CD productions, choir concerts, and concert trips through Germany, Europe and North America bear witness to the diverse activities of the choir. To date, the choir has performed on numerous concert tours in Germany (e.g. St. Thomas Church Leipzig), Switzerland (e.g. Grossmuenster Zürich), Poland (e.g. Breslau Dome), Italy (e.g. St. Ignatius Rome), Czech Republic (e.g. St. Nicolas Prague) and twice in the USA (e.g. Chicago and Washington). The choir’s performances in the Frauenkirche (Munich), Notre-Dame (Paris), St. Paul’s Cathedral (London), in South Tyrol, Switzerland as well as in Malta always receive a positive response and are greatly appreciated. In both national and international competitions, the choir has been awarded numerous prizes (e.g. second prize at the Palestrina Festival 2000 in Rome, first prize at the Musica Sacra Choir Competition 2001 in Prague).
