Frits Hendrich (Choral Conductor)

Born: 1944 (?) - Tiel, the Netherlands

The Dutch choral coinductor and piano teacher, Frits Hendrich, trained at the Utrechts Conservatorium.

Frits Hendrich joined the Tielse Muziekschool in 1970 as a piano teacher. His passion for music was not limited to the piano alone: he took on the task of revitalizing the Tiels Madrigaal Koor. And that worked. "It will do me the duvel if there is no good choir in Tiel", was his motivation. He was the Artistic Director of the Tiels Madrigaal Koor for from 1972 to 2018. Thanks to his musicality and enthusiasm, he still manages to motivate the members to interpret the piece at a high level. Under his direction, the repertoire of Tiels Madrigaal Koor was broadened. Besides madrigals, there were more and more other classical pieces on the repertoire. Concerts were not only given in Sint-Maartenskerk but also in many other places in the distant region and occasionally abroad. The choir makes a musical contribution to the commemoration of the dead on the 4th of May, almost every year, and brings a different passion every year on Palm Sunday. Thanks to contributions from the Oudburger Mannen- en Vrouwenhuis and the Stichting Fundatie voor Christelijke Belangen, professional vocalists can also be deployed at these concerts. In addition, one or two major classical works were rehearsed each year. For Frits, the performance of the Carmina Burana by Orff in the Agnietenhof in 1993 was one of the highlights of his career. That was a very successful mega operation with a lot of percussion, two pianos, a children's choir and soloists.

In 1999, Frits Hendrich was awarded a Gouden Speld from the Koninklijke Bond van Zang- en Oratoriumverenigingen (Royal Association of Singing and Oratorio Associations). He was praised for his perseverance and almost endless energy. He also received a lot of appreciation for his commitment to music, musicians and listeners. In 2009 he received the Knight in the order of Oranje Nassau. Jn June 2018, after 46 of directing the Tiels Madrigaal Koor, he announces his retirement. He currently lives in Tiel, the Netherlands.
