The Finnish conductor, Olli Heikkilä, started his music hobby as a violinist. Alongside playing the violin, orchestral and choral music and solo singing began later. Markku Jounela and Kari Kaarna guided him to the first steps of choir conducting at Madetojan Musiikkilukiossa (Madetoja's music high school). Music conducting studies have continued at the Klemetti-Opistossa (Klemetti College) under the teaching of Jani Sivén and Seppo Murron; at the Oulun Seudun Ammattikorkeakoulussa (Oulu Regional University of Applied Sciences) with the master-classes of Erik Westberg and Ragnar Rasmussen; and most recently at the choir conducting class of the Sibelius-Akatemian under the supervision of Professor Matti Hyök. J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 production in spring 2013 is part of his Sibelius-Akatemian choral conducting A degree.
Olli Heikkilä has directed the Mieskuoro Weljiä (2002-2008), Cantio Laudis choir (2005–2011) and Oulun Kamariorkesteri (since 2008). Olli Heikkilä's main job is working as a doctor. |
