The Oulun Kamariorkesteri (Oulu Chamber Orchestra) was founded in the spring of 1987. Its members are the musicians of the Oulun Kaupunginorkesteri (Oulu City Orchestra), teachers and students of the Oulun Konservatorion (Oulu Conservatory). The orchestra was founded and directed by conductor Ari Angervo. In addition to diligent concerts, it should be mentioned that the Oulun Kamariorkesteri recorded one LP (OKO LP I 1987), which was produced by the the Oulun Konservatorion. The disc has e.g. Erik Tulindberg's Violin Concerto No. 1, B flat major, with Erkki Palola as soloist.
The new arrival of the Oulun Kamariorkesteri took place in 2008. For several years already, the orchestra had performed and recorded in cooperation with different choirs without its own name and with changing compositions. A need for the orchestra was seen in the cultural life of the Oulu region as a performer of church and chamber orchestra music, and the Oulu Chamber Music Association, which operates behind the orchestra, was founded.
The body of the Oulun Kamariorkesteri is formed by the string orchestra, which is complemented by wind instruments if necessary. Young music professionals, students and advanced enthusiasts play in the orchestra. The orchestra's own members and young musicians from all over Finland perform as soloists. In addition to its own concerts, the orchestra performs in collaboration with various choirs, and the focus of the activity has been church music.
In its operations, the Oulun Kamariorkesteri strives not only to perform music with varying compositions, but also to bring additional color to Oulu's cultural life. The Oulun Kamariorkesteri's concerts are often multi-artistic events, where the goal is a live connection between performers and listeners. With the help of a social art event, the Oulun Kamariorkesteri wants to be approachable and bring the music close to the listener. |
