The American singer and choral conductor, Jonathon Hampton, studied Marketing and Musicology at Cornell University (2000-2004).
Having directed choirs for 15 years, Jonathon Hampton is a unique and versatile conductor and professional singer. He performs sacred and secular music as an alto, tenor, and baritone, specializing in early classical, spirituals, jazz, and contemporary repertoire, including songwriting and arranging. His solo album, "Negro Spirituals: Songs of Trial and Triumph" complements two recordings as featured soloist with Pacific Boychoir: "That Promised Land" and "Show Me the Way". He has recently recorded commercial albums with Cappella SF and American Bach Soloists, and appears on earlier recordings with the Trinity Wall Street Choir, Schola Cantorum San Francisco, New York Film Chorale, Cornell University Glee Club, and The American Boychoir. He performs regularly with American Bach Soloists (Director: Jeffrey Thomas), Cappella SF, and San Francisco Symphony Chorus, Schola Adventus, Marin Baroque, in addition to singing often with the Choir of Church of the Advent and Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys in San Francisco, California, and the Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland, California.
For 14 years, Jonathon Hampton taught and toured internationally with choristers of all ages. He directs ensembles for East Bay Center for the Performing Arts (since December 2017), and was recently a conductor for the early music chamber chorus, Tactus SF (June 2019-June 2020), San Francisco Youth Chorus (August 2018-April 2020), and San Francisco Early Music Society's summer Music Discovery Workshop and Youth Collegium. He was previously a director of the GRAMMY-winning Pacific Boychoir (June 2013-May 2018), choristers at Grace Church in Newark, New Jersey (August 2011-June 2013), and founded two choruses in affiliation with his alma mater, Cornell University where he graduated in 2004. He has been guest conductor of several ensembles across the country and also spent five years with Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute, coordinating international music education programs and media, work he continues today as an arts consultant. Additionally, he performs as a popular music soloist. |
