Marin Baroque 16-voice Chamber Choir & Period Instrument Orchestra is Marin County's premier ensemble for Baroque music. Music Director Daniel Canosa. As Marin County's premier ensemble for professional, historically accurate performance of Baroque music, they are changing the landscape of music in Marin. Founded in 2012, they have presented many ground-breaking concerts and fully-staged operas in our outdoor courtyard theater. Our concerts have included works by Antonio Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, Dietrich Buxtehude, Monteverdi, George Frideric Handel, Purcell, Haydn, W.A. Mozart, Jewish music of the Baroque, Old World and New World Spanish music.
In just a few seasons, Marin Baroque has presented an extraordinary array of outstanding concerts and fully staged, outdoor operas. In addition to performances in their home community of Marin County, they have been enthusiastically welcomed in San Francisco and Berkeley.
Marin Baroque Music Director, Daniel Canosa, creates unique and exciting programs exemplified by concerts such as “Birds of Paradise, Exotic Music of the Old & New Worlds” and “Jewish Music of the Baroque.” His music background including international performances and ensemble directorship gives him a broad and profound understanding of Baroque repertoire of all countries. The Marin Baroque Chamber Choir and period instrument Orchestra are renowned for the beauty and high quality of their music. Another Marin Baroque tradition is the presentation of Chamber Concerts in celebration of holidays like Valentines’ Day. The latest, "Love & Sax", featuring David Henderson’s Premiere Saxophone Quartet with Baroque and jazz pieces and fascinating narrative by the musicians was a smash hit.
Early music vocal and instrumental ensemble, Calextone, with Shira Kammen, Allison Zelles-Lloyd, Letitia Berlin, and Frances Blaker has presented two enchanting chamber concerts, one on a Valentines’ Day weekend and the other In their outdoor courtyard in early summer. Their outstanding performances included gorgeous early French love songs, lovely informal commentary and a charming slide presentation.
Marin Baroque operas, presented in a wonderful, outdoor courtyard with balconies, pillars, and a beautiful tree in its center, all used to highly effective dramatic effect, were presented to sold out, highly enthusiastic audiences. Many described their experience as “…magical.” |
