The German baritone, Horst Günther [Günter], studied in Bologna, Innsbruck and Berlin.
From 1941 to 1944 Horst Günther was engaged at Schwerin, Göttingen and Wiesbaden. In 1950 he joined the Hamburg State Opera, where he continued to sing until 1968, taking part in the 1954 concert performance of Arnold Schoenberg’s Moses und Aron. He also appeared at Vienna, Berlin and Munich, where he sang in 1962 in Frank Martin's Le vin herbe. His finest roles were Papageno and W.A. Mozart's and Rossini's Figaro, parts which admirably displayed his considerable talent for comedy, as well as his keenly focussed, flexible voice. Among his pupils and/or singers who have attended hhis master-classes: Mariana Rewerski (Mezzo-soprano). |
