Rocío de Frutos (Soprano)

Born: Seville (Sevilla), Spain

The Spanish soprano, Rocío de Frutos, studied violin and singing in the Superior Conservatory of Music of Seville and graduated as a singer in 2008 from the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music Victoria Eugenia of Granada with teacher Ana Huete. She has received-classes from Carlos Mena, Lambert Climent, Lluís Vilamajó, Rosa Domínguez, Petr Skusnitchenko, Bart Vandewege, David Mason and Richard Levitt among others.

Rocío de Frutos combines her soloist career with her participation on several chamber groups such as Capella Reial de Catalunya, Musica Ficta (Director: Bo Holten), Choeur de Chambre de Namur, Nova Lux Ensemble, Solistas del Coro Barroco de Andalucía, Grande Chapelle, Voces de Al Ayre Español, Forma Antiqva, Ensemble Fontegara… and she herself is a founding member of the groups Concerto delle Dame, Alla Vera Spagnola and Clepsidra.

Rocío de Frutos has been conducted by Maestros Jordi Savall, Christophe Coin, Monica Huggett, Diego Fasolis, Enrico Onofri, Aldo Ceccato, Michael Thomas, Lluís Vilamajó, Carlos Mena, Josep Cabré, Raúl Mallavibarrena, Alfred Cañamero, Leonardo García-Alarcón, José Carlos Carmona, David Timm, David Guindano, Mauricio Linari, Alonso Salas, Juan Carlos de Mulder… singing with ensembles and orchestras such as Le Concert des Nations, Hespèrion XXI, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, Mendelssohnorchester of Leipzig, Orchestre Florilege, Orquesta Sinfónica Hispalense, Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Orquesta Manuel de Falla de Cádiz, Orquesta Joven de Andalucía, Orquesta del Conservatorio Superior de Granada … offering concerts in different cities from Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Belgium, Austria, Norway, Morocco, South America and USA.

Among her repertoire as a soprano soloist she has sang several oratorios (J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244), St John Passion (BWV 245), Magnificat (BWV 243) and several Cantatas; George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, Theodora, Solomon and Dixit Dominus; Antonio Vivaldi’s Glorias; W.A. Mozart’s C minor Mass, Davidde Penitente, Coronation Mass, Requiem; Haydn’s Creation; L.v. Beethoven’s C Major Mass…) also some opera other escenic rolls in Purcell’s Dido and Eneas and King Arthur, Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne; Falla’s Retablo de Mese Pedro; and lieder, chansons, canciones, etc. She has made recordings for ARSIS, ALMAVIVA, CCP and DCR.

Rocío de Frutos is a PhD researcher in the Music Area of the University of Seville.
