Eva Fleischer (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: May 5, 1922 - Breslau, Germany
Died: January 8, 2016 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany

The German mezzo-soprano, Eva Fleischer, was trained at the Music College of Leipzig and was there pupil of F. Himmler, Hans Lißmann and P. Russ.

In 1954 Eva Fleischer made her debut at the Leipzig Opera House as Wanja in Iwan Susanin (Ein Leben für den Zaren) by Glinka. From 1959 to 1967, she was engaged as first dramatic altoist at the Opera House of Leipzig. During these years she made guest appearances in Berlin, in Bulgaria and at prominent opera stages of the GDR. On the stage shw was particularly estimated as interpreter of dramatic roles in Verdi and Wagner operas.

In the concert hall Eva Fleischer appeared in an extensive repertoire, whereby she acquired great reputation particularly as oratorio and Lieder singer, in particular as J.S. Bach interpreter.

The teaching of singing formed a further focal point of Eva Fleischer's artistic work: from 1951 to 1964 she was a lecturer, and since 1964 a professor at the Music College of Leipzig.
