The German soprano and voice teacher, Ute Engelke, hasd her youth was filled with singing and piano-playing. Her favourite ritual as a child: singing through all songs of her children’s choir before going to bed. Nevertheless, it was not before completing her training as industrial clerk that she decided to make music her profession. She studied church musicat the Fachhochschule für Kirchenmusik in Görlitz (singing with Anke-Elisabeth Bertram, Class of 1995) and the Universität der Künste Berlin (singing with Adele Stolte, Class of 1997), completing her studies with an A-diploma,. The decisive inspiration that made her choose a career in singing came with Uwe Gronostay, her professor of choral conducting in Berlin. Excited and moved by her voice and musical sensitivity, he recommended that she go on to study Baroque singing with Peter Kooy at the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam. In recent years, Charlotte Lehmann has become a crucial inspiration for her work.
Today, Ute Engelke is well-known as an inspired performer of concert and oratorio repertoires and as a passionate vocal teacher. In addition to her concert engagements as a soloist, she regularly sings with the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart under the direction of conductors such as Marcus Creed, Frieder Bernius, Morten Schuldt-Jensen, Jörg Straube, and Hermann Max. Her work is well documented on numerous CDs and broadcasts.
Ute Engelke is active as a vocal coach for the Landesjugendchor Niedersachsen, and is a member of the Bundesverband Deutscher Gesangspädagogen. In recognition of her exceptional services to church music, she was awarded the Kirchenmusikpreis des Stadtkirchenverbandes Hannover in 2004. She married Dietmar Engelke on December 7, 2012. She currently lives in Hannover, Germany. |
