The German organist, Arthur Eger, studied church music in Dresden from 1922 to 1926, partly within the framework of teacher training and partly on his own initiative.
From 1926 to the end of his life Arthur Eger was choirmaster at Freiberg Cathedral. He won lasting respect through his first Freiberg performances of the great sacred choral works of J.S. Bach, Mozart and Beethoven and through the success of his efforts to incrcase awareness of the worth of the Silbermann Cathedral organ and the need to preserve it in its original state. The musical performances which regularly take place at Freiberg Cathedral to this day derive from the evening concert series he instituted on August 31, 1939. |
