The Evangelische Kantorei St. Ingbert (= EKSI) is a choir with more than 60 singers singing in the worship of the Martin-Luther-Kirche and the Christuskirche. In addition, they perform in the context of the concert series, and once a year one to two large church works as Passions, Oratorios, and Masses.
The choir was probably founded in 1881 or even as early as 1866. After the initial creation (only with men), there was probably the end of 1870-the years new impetus for the choir life. More and more church choirs were founded, the end of 1880 to Landesverband the evangelical singing clubs joined together. This movement is probably due to the re-establishment, which also forces that women were admitted.
Over many decades devoted to the choral singing in the church until some years after World War I that first concerts outside of the service were listed. It was the merit of the former long-time (1934-1973) chorus-master Heinz Haag, that the singers sensitively avoided the performance of major church works. In 1971 - i.e. 105 years after the founding of the church - the choir received its name today: "Evangelische Kantorei St. Ingbert". Since 1974 the choral conducting was in the hands of Helmut Haag. From now on the choir performs regularly challenging works such as Masses by Mozart, L.v. Beethoven and Bruckner, Requiem by Johannes Brahms and Mozart, or J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245).
Since 1999 Thomas Huck heads the Evangelical Kantorei. As the first great work heard under his direction on April 16, 2000 with great success, was J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) at the Martin-Luther-Kirche. Great other works of sacred music followed until the present day: from the Baroque other works by J.S. Bach Magnificat (BWV 243) and all six parts of the Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) and Georg Frideric Handel's Messiah. The eras of Classical and Romantic compositions to the 20th Century, the performances of Mozart's Requiem, Elijah and Lobgesang by Felix Mendelssohn, Messe Solennelle by Vierne, and most recently, Requiem by Maurice Duruflé. On November 4, 2007, twelve of the 26 Psalmen Davids by Heinrich Schütz with great success. The special attraction was the performance given by H. Schütz practice: shared choirs and instrumental groups from different places in the church were responsible for an authentic reproduction.
The Evangelische Kantorei sang on November 9, 2008, the Bach Cantatas BWV 21 and BWV 93 with a musical highlight from Bach's inexhaustible instrumental works, the 5th Brandenburg Concerto. The management of the concert was in the hands of Helmut Haag, who, starting September 2008, took over again the heading of the Evangelical Kantorei. Sustained applause was the thanks of the audience for this concert.
In 2009, three choral concerts for the choir on the program: A Passion concert on March 29, with works by J.S. Bach and Wolfgang Fortner, evening of sacred music Herr bleibe bei uns, a gala concert on the anniversary 150 years of Martin-Luther-Kirche with the performance of the oratorio' The Schöpfung by Josef Haydn on September 13 and 3rd Advent a Christmas concert for the heart with a well-known German Christmas carols and choirs cheering from Messiah and Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248). |
