The Vokalensemble St. Dionysius was founded in 1995 and is responsible for the performances of musical worship and concerts at the Hauptpfarrkirche St. Dionysius. The Vokalensemble is a welcome guest at other churches in Krefeld and the surrounding area. The high quality music the Vokalensemble is known not only in the region of Krefeld, but also throughout Germany within a very short time has made itself a name. The various concert tours have led the Vokalensemble to Koblenz, Heilbronn, Trier, Tübingen, Kaiserslautern, Saarbrücken, Freiburg, Berlin and Limburg, among others. The Vokalensemble consists of about 40 singers, and its extensive repertoire includes mainly classical sacred choral literature, 16th to 20th Centuries, 4 - to 8-voices. The Vokalensemble performs also rarely heard works, and even secular literature and songs.
In 1999 the Vokalensemble St. Dionysius produced its first CD, titled "Chormusik aus der Dionysiuskirche Krefeld " featuring works by T. Tallis, J. Haydn, Josef G. Rheinberger, Johannes Brahms, Gabriel Fauré, C. V. Stanford. In April 2000, the world premiere of the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré in new instrumentaion for six instrumental soloists by Christoph Weinhart. The Vokalensemble also produced a first CD-recording of the work. A special highlight was in October 2002 - in collaboration with the WDR a large number of chorales and motets for the musical morning prayers were recorded by the WDR. Particularly noteworthy is the premiere performance and recording of the motet Veni, sancte spiritus by Professor Volker Wangenheim. Another world premiere - this time Volker Wangenheim's motet Rector potens, Verax Deus - was presented in 2003 in Heilbronn.
In April 2003, the Vokalensemble St. Dionysius celebrated a big success together with the Orchester der Kölner Kammermusiker with the performance of Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) by J.S. Bach at Christus König, Krefeld. The spectators and the press response were very positive. The Vokalensemble St. Dionysius introduces a challenging and diverse repertoire. The high sound quality of the Vokalensemble and the concentrated preparation of the works are reflected in the high acceptance and positive response from the audience and the press. The resolute and project-related work of the Vokalensemble made it possible to present within a short time many successful performances and premieres.
In 2005 the Vokalensemble St. Dionysius celebrated its 10th anniversary. For this anniversary, a number of performances were planned and presented. The highlight of the anniversary year was the performance of Mass in B minor (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach, which for many music lovers is the greatest work of the Baroque. Another CD-premiere recording of the cycle Cantus de Luce by St. Augustine by the contemporary composer Volker Wangenheim was produced in 2006. The following year the community of St Dionysius celebrated the inauguration of the new organ by the company Klais/Bonn. The Vokalensemble sang on this special occasion the Missa brevis and the Laudes organi by Zoltán Kodály for choir and organ. In the same year the Vokalensemble performed the Mass in E minor by Anton
