The Spanish conductor, Jorge Suárez-Muñoz, began his musical training studying piano and later conducting, violin, singing and composition at the conservatory of his hometown. Invited by maestro Jorma Panula to study under his tutelage in Finland, he continued his studies in conducting, working regularly with members of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. He holds a degree in Economics from the Carlos III University of Madrid and in 2023 he completed a Master's degree in Musicology at the University of La Rioja.
Jorge Suárez began to collaborate in 2020 as assistant conductor in the Community of Madrid Youth Orchestra (JORCAM) and in 2021 he was appointed its Assistant Conductor, an institution with which he has remained linked until the beginning of the year 2023. During the 2021-2022 season he added to his duties that of assistant to Ana González with the Community of Madrid Boy’s Choir (choir associated to the Royal Opera of Madrid), highlighting his participation in productions such as La Bohème, the premiere of Luis de Pablo's El abrecartas or Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher, in a co-production with the Frankfurt Opera. He has conducted the JORCAM in several productions for the Teatros del Canal, highlighting his recent work with the company of choreographer Victoria Miranda in a contemporary dance production of Les Indes Galantes by Jean-Philippe Rameu. His work in L.v. Beethoven's Triple Concerto op. 56 with the VibrArt Trio, Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 9 or the Symphonic Dances from Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story stand out.
Jorge Suárez has collaborated on several occasions as assistant conductor to Juanjo Mena, from whom he has received support and valuable advice during his early formative years. His assistantships include projects around works by Schubert, Benjamin Britten and Alberto Ginastera with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra at the BBC Proms in London and with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra (Debussy, De Falla, Ravel), the Gulbenkian Orchestra of Lisbon (W.A. Mozart and Bruckner), as well as with the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra and Chorus (Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé) and the Spanish National Orchestra and Chorus (Haydn's Die Schöpfung, Bruckner's Mass in F minor or B. Britten's War Requiem, among others).
In 2017 Jorge Suárez founded Concentus König, a choir and ensemble for historical performance. Motivated by his deep interest in the German repertoire of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, he focuses from the beginning his projects on programs that combine choral and instrumental work. With Concentus König he has been able to visit some early music festivals in Spain, highlighting his participation in the premiere of the FIAS in Madrid in 2020 with works by Heinrich Schütz, Michael Praetorius and Giovanni Gabrieli. Among his upcoming engagements with the group, his debut at the Festival de Música Antigua de Aranjuez stands out. |
