The French soprano, Lucie Chartin (neé Lucie Van Baaren), was born and raised in the south of France. Her childhood was characterised by an endless round of piano and flute lessons. She participated successfully in a few competitions and won the second and first prize of her category at the Concorso Pianistico Nazionale di Cesenatico. After finishing her piano degree cum laude at barely 14 years old, she needed some time to forget about music altogether. When she went to Lyon to study Cultural Science at the University, she undertook singing lessons. She received her first tuition at the Centre de la Voix Rhône-Alpes and started to sing in a Youth Choir. That experience revealed the deep passion she had for music and singing.
After graduating at the Université Lyon II, Lucie Chartin travelled to Haarlem, The Netherlands, to undertake private lessons with Ronald Klekamp. She then studied with Xenia Meijer and Maarten Koningsberger at the Early Music Department of the Amsterdam Conservatoire, from which she graduated in June with the highest distinction in 2015. She received coaching’s and master-classes by Emma Kirkby, Margreet Honig, Alfredo Bernardini, Carolyn Sampson and Claron McFadden among others. She is currently being coached by Susanna Eken (Copenhagen). Lucie was recently chosen as a 'Young Bach fellow', one of the four young musicians to be supported by the Nederlandse Bachvereniging in their career development.
Having explored both the piano and the cleaning options, Lucie Chartin is now pursuing her vocation as a singer. She is a recurring member of Cappella Amsterdam (Director: Daniel Reuss), Ensemble Pygmalion (Director: Raphaël Pichon; since June 2012) and De Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Director: Jos van Veldhoven) with whom she performs early Baroque as well as contemporary repertoire. As a soloist she performed under the direction of Gijs Leenaars, Daniel Reuss, Richard Egarr, Sigiswald Kuijken and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. She performed with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Asko Schönberg, Holland Baroque Society and Orchestra of the 18th Century, in concerts venues like De Doelen (Rotterdam), Muziektheater aan't IJ (Amsterdam) and the Tonhalle (Düsseldorf).
Lucie Chartin sung the role of Belinda in Dido and Aeneas under Richard Egarr in Amsterdam, and created the role of Mariken's Soul in Mariken in de tuin der Lusten by Callioppe Tsoupaki with the company Opera2Day. The performance toured in the great theaters of the Netherlands, where she shared the stage with Michael Chance, Harry van der Kamp and Jill Feldman.
Upcoming solo engagements include Die Schöpfung with Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne in Tokyo under Daniel Reuss, the role of Olympia in Opera2day's next production and the role of le Petit Prince in Le Petit Prince by Michael Levinas with De Doelen Ensemble. |
