The Portuguese Tenor, Rodrigo Carreto, studied at Conservatório de Música D.Dinis (2007-20015) and at Escola Secundária Pedro Alexandrino (2012-2015). He graduated in Choral Conducting and Music Theory by the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (2018). He completed vocal improvement with Joana Nascimento. He is currently doing a Master’s degree in singing at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, where he studies with Scot Weir. In parallel to his regular studies, he also works with the British baritone Peter Harvey. He won the 3rd place on the 2021 American Music Talent Competition and in March 2020, he was admitted to the master-class at Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart where he worked with Emma Kirkby, Lothar Odinius and performed J.S. Bach's Cantata Klagt, Kinder, klagt es aller Welt, BWV 244a with the JSB Ensemble under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann among others.
Between 2017 and 2019, Rodrigo Carreto was part of the Gulbenkian Choir, where he regularly worked with Michel Corboz and Jorge Matta. He was also a member of the early music group Officium Ensemble. In 2021, he was accepted into the Bach Young Soloists of Collegium Vocale Gent with Peter Kooij and Philippe Herreweghe, with whom he starts working the 2021-2022 season. At the same time he is part of the pool of singers of La Capella Reial de Catalunya where he works with Jordi Savall and Lluís Vilamajó.
Rodrigo Carreto has been mainly dedicated to the interpretation of works by J.S. Bach and George Frideric Handel, cantatas, oratories, masses and passions as well as music from the French Baroque period. His repertoire also includes works such as Requiem and the C minor Mass (W.A. Mozart), Lauda Sion (Felix Mendelssohn), the Mass of St. Cecilia (Charles Gounod), Christmas Oratory (Camille Saint-Saëns), Chichester Psalm (Leonard Bernstein), among others. He performed solo with Capriccio Barockorchester Basel, Portuguese Symphony Orchestra and Choir of the National Theater of S. Carlos, Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra and with the ensembles Ensemble Sonare (Director: Lisa May-Appenzeller), Os Músicos do Tejo, etc. In August 2019 debuted the opera É Possível Resistir, as António, together with the Contemporary Music Group of Lisbon and joined the cast of the production of Tosca (G. Puccini), as Spoletta, at the Lisbon OperaFest 2020 with the MPMP Ensemble. In may 2021 he was Belfiore in La Finta Giardiniera (W.A. Mozart) under the direction of Johannes Schlaefli and Annette Uhlen at the Theater der Künste Gessnerallee in Zürich.
In addition to Portugal and Switzerland, Rodrigo Carreto has performed in several concerts and festivals in China, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, and Spain. He worked with singers such as Yvonne Naef, Jan van Elsacker, Jill Feldman, Geert Smits, Xavier Moreno and with conductors such as Ton Koopman, Gustavo Dudamel, David Afkham, John Nelson, Alain Altinoglu, Leonardo García-Alarcón, and Joshua Santos. He currently lives in Zürich, Switzerland. |
