Die Chorgemeinschaft St. Sebastian (Choir Community St. Sebastian = CGSS; renamed: SebastianChor München) in Munich Schwabing counts today about 50 young, music-inspired singers, who perform big choir works of the last three centuries in weekly progrmmes together with their director Michaela Prentl. The regular training with the teacher Angela Wendebourg contributes additionally to the continuous improvement of the choir sound.
The repertoire of the CGSS includes - beside numerous a-capella works of Heinrich Schütz, J.S. Bach and Felix Mendelssohn to Zoltán Kodály - various masses and oratorios such as Messiah and Israel in Egypt by George Frideric Handel (live broadcast by the Bavarian Radio), Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV
248), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Magnificat (BWV 243) and Mass in B minor (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach, Requiem and Great Mass in C minor by W.A. Mozart, as well as Eliah by F. Mendelssohn and German Requiem by Johannes Brahms. To these important music events, outstanding orchestras like the baroque orchestra La Banda and internationally renowned soloists, such as the tenors Rainer Trost and James Taylor as well as the soprano Gerlinde Sämann, are invited.
Since 1991 CGSS has undertook various tours abroad, to France, Italy and Malta, where they were receiveed with big applause from the public there. The concerts of the CGSS are recorded some years and are available on CD and on tapes. |
