The Amberger Chorgemeinschaft (Amberg's Community Choir) is a choir concert, which currently consists of about 70 members. Sinbce its founddation in 1980, the choir it has prepared an extensive repertoire. The focus is on the sacred and secular a-cappella music from Medieval to Modern times, in numerous concerts in Amberg, but also beyond at the invitation of the Bezirkstagspräsidenten in Kloster Speinshart; in recent years concerets have led the Amberger Chorgemeinschaft to Herzogenaurach, Forchheim, Wurzburg, th Klosterkirche Kastl and the Wallfahrtskirche Fuchsmühl as well as Basle. CD, LP, radio and television recordings document the lively and enthusiastic sininging of the choir. In 2000 the choir celebrated its 20th anniversary.
The Amberger Chorgemeinschaft has performed many of the great oratorios (often with the Hofer Symphoniker, in recent times with the Kammerorchester Forchheim), focusing on the works of J.S. Bach: Cantatas and Passions, Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) and Mass in B minor (BWV 232). These great concerts were held in recent years, regularly in Pfarrkirche St. Konrad in Amberg-Ammersricht, a church, which has become the ideal sound space for sacred works through its simple and dignified atmosphere.
The Amberger Chorgemeinschaft maintains partnership with the chorir "Arnaut de Mareuil" from the Amberg City Perigeux (France), which has brought several visits from both choirs with concert performances.
In the summer of 1994, the Amberger Chorgemeinschaft was awarded the "Kulturförderpreis der Oberpfalz 1994".
From 1980 to 2007 the Amberger Chorgemeinschaft was directed by Berthold Höps. After 27 years of intensive collaboration and many exciting concerts the leadership of the choir was taken over, in agreement with the singers, by Dieter Müller.
