Berthold Höps (Choral Conductor, Organ, Harpsichord)

Born: 1951 - Germany

The German choral conductor, organist and harpsichordist, Berthold Höps, received his first organ training with Domkapellmeister Wolfram Menschick in Eichstätt. He studied at the Musikhochschule in Munich music education and as major subject organ with Professor Karl Richter, finishing in 1977 with the master class diploma "because of particular artistic achievements". Until 1978 he was a member of the Münchener Bach-Chor.

Berthold Höps is active as a concert organist and harpsichordist in Germany and abroad (Munich, Nuremberg, Bonn, Berlin, Basle, Zürich, London, Netherlands, and France), but especially in southern Germany, as a soloist with Karl Richter, more recently, together with the Windsbacher Knabenchor.

His recordings include organ works of J.S. Bach and others; in 1996 and 1997 recordings with members of the Bamberger Symphoniker for EMI / Capriccio (published world-wide, with very good reviews in England, France, Japan and the USA); more CD's with Stephan Adelmann (contrabass, Bamberger Symphoniker) and Joseph Matti (tenor, Opernhaus Zürich).

In 1980 Berthold Höps founded the Amberger Chorgemeinschaft. In February 2008, he was honoured with the Medal of Merit of the city of Amberg excellent, after he had left the leadership of the choir in the summer of 2007.
