German Text (verses in bold print set by Bach)

English Translation

1. Nun preiset alle
Gottes Barmherzigkeit!
Lob ihn mit Schalle,
Werteste Christenheit!
Er lässt dich freundlich zu sich laden;
Freue dich, Israel, seiner Gnaden.

1. Come, all men, praise ye
Our God so merciful!
Sing anthems hearty,
All who on earth do dwell!
Sweet loving kindness He doth show ye:
Sing now, O Israel, for His bounty!

2. Der Herr regieret
Über die ganze Welt;
Was sich rühret,
Ihme zu Fußen fällt;
Viel tausend Engel um ihn schweben,
Psalter und Harfen ihm Ehre geben.

2. For the Lord ruleth
Over the whole world wide.
What He commandeth
Ever shall fast abide.
Ten thousand angels round Him winging
Loudly His praises ever are singing.

3. Wohlauf, ihr Heiden,
Llasset das Trauern sein,
Zur grünen Weiden
Stellet euch willig ein;
Da lässt er uns sein Wort verkünden,
Machet uns ledig von allen Sünden.

4. Er gibet Speise
Reichlich und überall,
Nach Vaters Weise
Sättigt er allzumal;
Er schaffet frühn und späten Regen,
Füllet uns alle mit seinem Segen.

4. He food provideth
Unto both man and beast,
As He decideth
Satisfies great and least.
He sendeth down from heaven the showers
Till with His blessing the green earth flowers.

5. Drum preis und ehre
Seine Barmherzigkeit;
Sein Lob vermehre,
Werteste Christenheit!
Uns soll hinfort kein Unfall schaden;
Freue dich, Israel, seiner Gnaden.

5. Wherefore, now praise Him,
Merciful God and true!
Anthems sing to Him,
Who careth much for you!
Henceforth misfortune harms us never:
Sing now, O Israel, praise Him ever!
