1. Als vierzig Tag nach Ostern warn
Und Christus wollt gen Himmel fahrn,
B'schied er sein Jünger auf ein Berg, Alleluja!
Vollend hat er sein Amt und Werk, Alleluja!

1. Four days had passed since Christ arose,
Triumphant over all His foes;
The Twelve He to Him there: Alleluja!
His days on earth all finished were. Alleluia!

2. Er sprach: All Ding erfüllet sind
Die man von mir geschrieben find
In Propheten und Moses Lahr, Alleluja!
Die Schrift er euch ausleget klar, Alleluja!

2. And thus did He unto them say:
' All things are finished that you may
In Moses and the prophets read, Alleluja!
Or of Me ever were decreed.' Alleluia!

3. Also sprach er: Hats müssen sein,
Daß Christus leidet Todes Pein,
Und mußt wieder vom Tod aufstehn, Alleluja!
Durchs Kreuz und Tod in sein Reich gehn. Alleluja!

3. Also spake He: ' On Me was laid
The price of sin that must be paid.
But from the grave I rose again, Alleluja!
And through the Cross have conquered pain.' Alleluia!
