German Text (verses in bold print set by Bach)

English Translation

1 Lobet Gott, unsern Herren,
in seinem Heiligthum,
zu Lobe seinen Ehren,
macht herrlich seinen Ruhm,
lobt Ihn im Firmamente,
da seine groß' Gewalt
und sein stark Regimente
zu sehn ist mannigfalt.

To be added

2. Lobet mit Herz und Munde
all' seine Wunderthat,
die Er zu aller Stunde
häufig verrichtet hat;
ob seiner Majestäten
und großen Herrlichkeit
thut sein Lob weit ausbreiten
in alle Ewigkeit.

3. Lobet Ihn fröhlich alle
mit der Posaunen Klang,
dem Herren zu Gefalle,
macht lieblichen Gesang,
mit Psalter, Harf und Geigen,
sammt andern Instrument;
mit Pauken, Pfeiff'n und Reigen
preiset sein Lob hehend.

4. Des Herren Ramen alle
lobet mit Saiten-Speil,
mit hellem Cymbeln-Schalle,
macht seines Lobes viel,
mit Cymbeln, die wohl klingen,
rühmt seine Gütigkeit,
von seinem Lob thut singen
immer und allezeit.

5. Es soll den Herren loben
und preisen immerdar,
im Himmel hoch dort oben,
die Engelische Schaar;
desgleichen auf der Erden,
alles, was odem hat,
soll seines Ruhms voll werden,
preisen sein' Wunderthat.

6. Amen, mit Mund und Herzen
sprecht, o ihr gläub'ge Schaar;
all' Traurigkeit und Schmerzen,
treibt von euch ganz und gar,
seid fröhlich in dem Herren,
und lobt Ihn allezeit,
Er wird in Freud' verkehred
all' euer Herzeleid.

7. Er wird euch reichlich geben
all's, was euch nöthig ist,
allhier in diesem leben,
und dort zu aller Frist,
wird euch in Himmel führen,
und selig machen gar,
thut's mit ein'm Eid betheuern.
Amen, das werde wahr.
