Born: March 3, 1710 - Grimma, Saxony, Germany

Johann Gottfried Schönemann was born to Daniel Schönemann (hat maker in Grimma). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on July 13, 1723; and studied there from 1723 to 1732, since April 29, 1723 already as external. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach reported (August 23, 1730): “usable for 1st Choir (figural music)”. |
