Born: November 19, 1732 - Grimma, Saxony, Germany
Died: December 23, 1813 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany |
Gottlob Friedrich Rothe was born the son of Johann Gabriel Rothe (Kantor in Grimma; Thomasschule: 1717-1723). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on July 6, 1744; and studied there from 1744 to 1752. As a Thomaner he was in Choir I from May 17, 1744 (Pentecost) to June 6, 1745 (Pentecost). Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he worked as sexton at the Johanniskirche in Leipzig from 1763 and the Thomaskirche from 1772 in Leipzig.
