Adam Friedrich Pohlreuter was born to Adam Pohlreuter (miller in Grimma) (registrar). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on December 16, 1722; and studied there from 1722 to 1732. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach reported (August 23, 1730): “usable for 1st Choir (figural music)”.
