Christian Heinrich Mentzel was born the son of Elias Mentzel (cavalry servant in Leipzig). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on October 17, 1732; studied there from 1731 to 1736, since June 26, 1727 already as external; and at Universität Leipzig from 1736. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. |
